At first, Brown’s injury was referred to as a sore foot. Also, reporters were told he would return to practice soon. When they still didn’t see Brown on the field, they were told by team representatives that they were being cautious with Brown. Many took the news at face value.
On Wednesday, it was revealed that the reason Brown hadn’t been practicing was because of extreme frostbite. This was caused by a cryotherapy machine. Brown was not wearing appropriate footwear when he entered the cryotherapy chamber last month in France. Thus, he burned his feet, leaving them frostbitten. Grossly pictures below.
Brown, 31, has missed a significant portion of his first training camp with the Raiders and has not practiced since July 30, when he left the team to visit a foot specialist.
Update for Brown Foot Injury
According to head coach Jon Gruden, Brown was “still collecting information” on the Antonio Brown foot injury, and that the team would know more in the next few days.
“You know me, it is like waiting for Santa Claus,” Gruden said of anticipating Brown’s return. “I have been really excited to coach this man. I think he is a great player and he is a great competitor. We need his life in this offense and on this football team. We will just cross our fingers. I will make no speculation whatsoever. He has to get it evaluated. He has to get the information he needs, and when he does, he will be back.”
The good news for raiders fans is that even though Brown has been unable to practice with his new teammates, he is expected back on the field soon because the team does not think the Antonio Brown foot injury is a long-term one.
Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers is entering the final year of the four-year extension he signed in 2015. Even though the Chargers have not offered him a new deal, Rivers said he is content to play out the final year of his deal.
“I feel fine playing this thing out,” Rivers said on SiriusXM NFL Radio, per Pro Football Talk. “The expectation and hope is to be here again next year, but it doesn’t need to be done right now. If it were to sometime soon, great. If not, let’s play it out and worry about it in the winter.”
Rivers is coming off one of his best seasons as a pro. He completed 68.3 percent of his passes for 4,308 yards, 32 touchdowns and 12 interceptions, leading the Chargers to the playoffs for the first time since 2013.
The 37-year-old quarterback’s play and leadership has made the decision to keep him around for the foreseeable a future an easy one for Chargers’ management.
Chargers & Philip Rivers Put Contract on Hold
“We’re on the same page with Phil. We’ve talked about it. He’s our leader now and in the future and we’re in a good place,” Chargers general manager Tom Telesco told NFL Network this week. “We’ll still have those talks, but really right now we’re focused on, and he’s focused on playing right now.”
While Rivers plans on playing out the final year of his deal, running back Melvin Gordon is expected to hold out f training camp in hope of securing a new deal with the team instead of playing out the final year of his rookie contract.
Rivers said over the weekend that he sympathizes with Gordon and can’t wait to have him back on the field.
“You want our team to have the best chance to win,” Philip Rivers said. “Hopefully we see Melvin soon. I think Melvin adds a great deal to our team.”
The Miami Dolphins have waived injured Kendrick Norton. However, they also plan to pay his salary.
On Sunday, the Miami Dolphins announced that they have waived defensive tackle Kendrick Norton. Norton had his left arm amputated following a car crash near Miami earlier this month. This with a non-football injury designation.
By placing the 22-year-old Norton on the reserve/non-football injury list, the team is able to pay his full salary. Similar to what the Pittsburgh Steelers did for linebacker Ryan Shazier after he suffered a spine injury in 2017. The team also announced that all of Norton’s medical bills will be covered by the NFL’s and Dolphins’ insurance policies. Tough break for a rising young star.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Norton’s Ford F-250 crashed into a concrete barrier on State Road 836 in the early hours of July 4.
The report also stated that drugs or alcohol were not suspected as a factor for either of the drivers involved in the accident. The former University of Miami player underwent at least six surgeries before he was released from the hospital last week.

“I just want to give a big thank-you. First of all, to God for me still being here. Second of all, to Jackson Medical Center. They did a great job. They took great care of me while I was in here,” Norton told reporters outside the hospital. “Next, I would like to thank the Miami Dolphins family. They’ve been crazy with how much help they’ve been willing to give and, you know, they really didn’t have to.”
Norton, who confirmed that his playing career is over after the accident, is hoping to get a prosthetic arm as he transitions to life after football. He was selected in the seventh round of the 2018 NFL Draft by the Carolina Panthers. Also, was signed off the Panthers’ practice squad by the Dolphins.
Before his injury, Norton was expected to compete for a spot on the team’s 53-man roster.
Running Back Duke Johnson is not concerned with a fallout from the Cleveland Browns. This of course comes after his recent comments.
The Cleveland Browns running back Duke Johnson surprised a lot of people this offseason. This was when he demanded a trade from the Browns. This came at the start of OTAs.
At the time he made the demand, Johnson told reporters that the Browns had indicated that they did not want to keep him around. This was after trying to trade him last season. Just a few months after he had signed a contract extension with the team.
“I only want to be somewhere I’m wanted,” Duke Johnson said June 4 before the first practice of the team’s three-day mandatory minicamp. “At the end of the day, that’s all this is about, being somewhere you’re wanted. In my case, the moment I’m not wanted anymore. I think it’s best that we find a middle ground and we do what’s best for the team. If you don’t want me here, there’s no need to keep me or force me to be here.”
The Browns’ signing of former Kansas City Chiefs running back Kareem Hunt, who is suspended for the first eight games of the regular season, also made Johnson feel like the odd man out.
Johnson and Mayfield Having Feud
Quarterback Baker Mayfield stirred things up when he called Johnson’s situation self-inflicted during a recent interview.
“Obviously, he’s going to handle his stuff how he wants. However, you’re either on this train or you’re not,” Mayfield said the same day. “It’s moving. You can get out of the way or you can join us. So it is what it is.”
Despite his trade demand and Mayfield’s comments, Duke Johnson does not plan on holding out and is expected to report to training camp, but don’t expect him to fret about any awkwardness caused by his demand or Mayfield’s comments.
“I don’t really concern myself with that,” he said, adding that he would address the issue at training camp if asked.
Is there already trouble brewing in the Cleveland Browns locker room?
Former Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive tackle Gerald McCoy is making some noise. McCoy signed with the rival Carolina Panthers this offseason. He is upset that the Buccaneers gave his No. 93 to Ndamukong Suh. This was shortly after releasing him. Also, he felt disrespected by the lack of communication with the New Tampa bay coaching staff prior to the team cutting him.
“I’m one of the best players to ever play in the organization. I’m going to say it — usually I wouldn’t, but I’m going to say it. It kind of shows the respect and how they feel about me,” he said.
Gerald McCoy, who is third in franchise history with 54.5 sacks, signed a one-year deal with the Carolina Panthers earlier this month. Suh signed a one-year deal with the team shortly after Tampa Bay released McCoy.
“It may seem like it’s just a number, but it’s bigger than that. It’s respect. That was a big part of the separation between me and Tampa, period, was the respect they showed to me all offseason. It just wasn’t there,” he said.

Asked if he had the dates circled in red, he said, “No, it’s in blue now. It’s going to be fun. I’m looking forward to it,” he said.
Alshon Jeffery is upset. The Philadelphia Eagles will not get a chance to defend their Super Bowl title after falling to the New Orleans Saints in the Divisional round of the playoffs. The loss not only meant the end of their playoff run, it may also be the last time backup quarterback Nick Foles put on an Eagles jersey.
With that said, after the game, wide receiver Alshon Jeffery, who tipped a pass that was intercepted in the final seconds of the game, blamed himself for costing his teammates a chance to win the game.
“That’s on me. I’ll take that loss. It’s on me,” he said. “I let my teammates down, the city of Philadelphia, that’s on me. I’ll take that.”
Even though the play led to the Saints sealing the win, Jeffery’s teammates feel he is being too hard on himself and credited his play for helping the team win the Super Bowl last season.

“In the end — talk about the fourth quarter — Lamar played really well in two-minute,” Harbaugh said. “I don’t think Joe would have played any better in two-minute. You have to say, based on that part of it [and] at that point in time in the game, it was the right decision.”

Like the Colts, the Texans overcame a slow start to the season and managed to win the division thanks to a nine-game winning streak in the middle of the season. Since the streak ended, they split their last four games, which might be cause for concern for some of their fans.
Deshaun Watson continued to impress, becoming the first player in NFL history to throw for over 4,000 yards and 25 touchdowns and also rush for over 500 yards and five rushing touchdowns. DeAndre Hopkins also had a big season, becoming the fourth player in NFL history to have 100 catches, 1,500 yards and 11 touchdowns in multiple seasons.
Defensively, the Texans looked great against the Jacksonville Jaguars, holding their rivals to three points. They will need big performances from J.J. Watt and Jadeveon Clowney to beat the Colts on Saturday.

D.J. Swearinger is known for speaking his mind. However, his mouth cost him his job as the Washington Redskins confirmed his release on Monday afternoon. What does this mean for the Redskins? Not much. They are still not a playoff team.
The move by the Redskins comes two days after Swearinger made critical remarks. Comments about defensive coordinator Greg Manusky’s play calling. after their loss to the Tennessee Titans over the weekend, which eliminated them from the playoffs.
Also, according to D.J. Swearinger, he was called into head coach Jay Gruden’s office where he was told he was being released.
“He just said it was the third time I’ve been in his office and we’re going to release you,” Swearinger told co-host Grant Paulsen. “And that was that.
“I don’t have words for this. Had a Pro Bowl year. I was a captain in year one, and this year I thought I improved on everything and I did a slap in the face and get released. Gave it my all and put my heart into it every single week to the best I could. I guess it says a lot about the organization.”
Therefore, before his release, Gruden told reporters he was disappointed in Swearinger.

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Nick Foles took a big hit from Houston Texans pass-rusher Jadeveon Clowney late in their game on Sunday, leaving him writhing in pain. However, Foles was able to shake it off and was back under center after going to the sidelines for one play.
With Carson Wentz dealing with an injury as well, Eagles fans were worried they will have to rely on third stringer Nate Sudfeld to help them clinch a playoff berth when they face the Washington Redskins this week.
Even Sudfeld thought he might have to become the team’s starter after watching Foles after the hit.
“I thought he was out. He was laying there forever,” Sudfeld said. “I didn’t know if he was out for forever or freaking one day. You have no idea.”
Fortunately for the Eagles, not only was Foles able to return to the game, he led the drive that led to the team’s game-winning field goal against the Texans.

The Seattle Seahawks suffered one of the most surprising losses over the weekend, losing to the San Francisco 49ers, a team they had defeated 10 consecutive times. The Seahawks were flagged by the referees 14 times for 148 yards, with the final flag costing them the game.
Cornerback Shaquill Griffin was called for a pass interference that set up the 49ers game-winning field goal, and he wasn’t very happy about the call after the game.
“The penalty that they called on me, it was a terrible call,” he said inside a silent Seahawks locker room, repeating a word he used a few times.
“I kinda knew they was going to try to call a penalty on someone the way they were calling penalties on offense, and I made sure as soon as I seen the pass in the air that I wasn’t going to touch him or grab him,” Griffin said. “I was just going to stick my hand out, knock it down and roll over. That’s exactly what I did. When I stood up and looked at the [official], he looked at me and threw it. So it’s something I can’t take back, and it sucks the way it ended, but it was a terrible call.”

Guys were busting their tails to get it done, but we just went too far, I guess.”
“I don’t think any of that was what happened,” he said. “I think we were sloppy with the penalty situation. All of the numbers matched up to how we play. The running numbers, the third-down numbers were the best we’ve had in quite a while. Defense kept the numbers down, played really well in the second half, gave up a couple field goals. So we did a lot of really good things like we normally do.”

The Philadelphia Eagles lost a close game to the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday, which dealt a big blow to their playoff hopes.
During the game, there were a lot of questionable calls made by the referees, most of which favored the Cowboys. One of the plays that stood out was a fumble by kick returner Jourdan Lewis, which was recovered by linebacker Kamu Grugier-Hill, who emerged from the pile with the ball in his hands.
The officials initially ruled that Lewis was down, but the Eagles challenged the play and it was reversed upon review. However, the referees said Dallas retained possession of the ball, which didn’t make a lot of sense because Grugier-Gill ended up with the ball.
